Story women at Walt Disney Animation Studios.

There are 10 of us here. I usually worked with one or two other female board artists at other productions. So I thought I would capture this for this years’s Caricature Show at the studios.

The ever awesome Fawn being awesome.

I encourage everyone to watch this heartbreaking documentary about the dissolution of the accomplished and lauded visual effects studio Rhythm & Hues (where some friends of mine worked), yet another high-profile casualty of the collapsing VFX industry due the turbulent, ill-structured quagmire that is the movie business. My old buddy Scott Leberecht did a wonderful job directing and editing this story. Definitely worth 30 minutes of your time, particularly if you make your living where art and commerce overlap.

It’s especially shameful that the VFX industry is treated they way they are considering most of the movies we see in theaters could be classified as animated films more than anything else.  Oh, that New York skyline? CG.  That random boring set of houses in the background? CG.  That superhero that you assume is a stuntman bodydouble?  CG.  More and more films are just actors in front of green screens or completely animated sequences, including the main characters.  The only difference is that they look real.  The fate of Rhythm & Hues is not unique.

I actually love this latest ending/ credits. I actually love this latest ending/ credits. I actually love this latest ending/ credits. I actually love this latest ending/ credits. I actually love this latest ending/ credits. I actually love this latest ending/ credits.

It may be hard to believe since Book 3 hasn’t even aired yet (SOON!), but we just had the final Korra animatic meeting this afternoon for the Book 4 series finale episode. It’s been bittersweet saying goodbye to so many amazing crew members as their teams have rolled off the production these last few weeks. Pictured here, left to right: Melchior Zwyer (director), Lauren Montgomery (supervising producer), Joaquim Dos Santos (co-executive producer), Ki-Hyun Ryu (supervising producer), me, Owen Sullivan (assistant director), and Mike. In hindsight, I wish we had lined up this shot so it looked like the Mac desktop tiger’s ears were sprouting from Mike’s head.

P.S. Though we had the animatic meeting, that still means there’s a TON of work left to do on Book 4. That is still part of the pre-production process.

Definitely a milestone day in the Korra production. So many great memories, great artists, and great moments ahead. Can’t wait for you all to see what we’ve been working on.

What a ride its been! Best crew EVER!!!

For sure!

Sneak peek at one of the incredible LoK drawings that one of our top 10 Korra Nation members will receive! This Zhu Li stunner was created for us by LoK supervising producer, Lauren Montgomery.

Way to go winners, you did the thing!

Whoa. #NOATS winners, you should know that your drawings will not be anywhere near as cool as this.

WOW!

I know this is a bit old, but Lauren’s drawings are always so amazing.

This Book 3 still seems like a good one for the caption game.

So weird to see my stuff finished and in color!  That was a fun sequence to do!
